We had most of the day to reach Picton today as long as we were there to catch the ferry that departed at 17:00. Although there was no rush we were nearing the end of a moderately long trip and were eager to get home. Consequently we made few stops between Hokitika and Picton.
We made a slow and leisurely stop at Beechwoods Cafe in Murchison. This cafe has a great setting and excellent amenities. Plus the food is good too. Even managed to con a passerby into taking a group photo.
From here it was straight through to Picton.
We actually arrived quite early and had a couple of hours to doodle around before we needed to be at the ferry for the trip to Wellington. After which would be the final trip home to Auckland after seeing family in Wellington.
Walked around the foreshore.
Checked out the boat harbour. Found somewhere for a bite to eat and then it was time to get in the queue for the ferry.
It was another of those journey’s picture perfect down the sounds and into Cook Strait.
With one final look at the South Island and the setting sun we were away on the journey home.
