We took the river trail out of Clyde to Alexandra. Got a bit confused finding it but eventually got on the track.

Where Do We Go From Here, Are We On Track?
It takes a little bit of extra time in getting to Alexandra via the river trail but it is scenic and a pleasure to ride in the fine weather we had, might not be so if raining. The the roadway trail would be better.

On Track Now
It has a few little lumps and bumps along the way but it is a very scenic ride. Wouldn’t go this way if raining.

Over the Bridge To Alexandra
We finally exit the River Trail and head across the bridge into Alexandra in search of a drink and a snack.
Was easy enough to find the turn off from Alexandra and onto the real Otago Rail Trail. When looking at some parts of the trail they seem to be endless.
I didn’t end up being greatly impressed with some of the bridges. Remember most of these were rail bridges in their day and what has been done to make them navigable on foot and cycles has resulted in additional boards being put in place between the original rail sleepers. The result being that the inserted boards are not quite equal in thickness to the rail sleepers. Consequently riding over these is like riding corrugations and it becomes quite bone jarring, you have to lift yourself partial off the bike seat to alleviate the worst of it.

But stopping on the bridges to enjoy the view on occasions help to soften the pounding on the arse.

We stopped in at the Chatto Creek Tavern along the way for some much needed refreshments. They have a lovely garden to enjoy a drink and something to eat.

Also time to check out the useful information. We have 10 more kilometres to cycle to Omakau where we will rest for tonight.
Departing the comfortable Chatto Creek Tavern it was back onto the endless roads.

Along with the occasional distraction of an underpass of the main highway passing overhead, but always with that long look at the stretch ahead.
But then came our arrival at Omakau.

We are booked at the Post Masters House at the rear of the Post Office. Very comfortable accommodation in a four bedroom, I suppose it might be referred to as a villa.Big comfy beds and plenty of space to move around.

Even had a spa pool in the grounds which we put to good use. Certainly helped to ease the pain in my arse from the hard bike seat.

There was a pub next door and a cafe across the road therefore we weren’t short of a drink or a place to eat. In the end we had takeaways.
Tomorrow we head for Wedderburn and in the process pass over the highest point on the trail.
